Rocket Queen Volume I

An explanation of the reasons that women pursue work in exotic dance and an analysis of its customers with interesting and quirky photography punctuating each page. The photos and art are often an ironic reference to family life, turned on its head.  “Rocket Queen” explores the feminist debate surrounding the sex trade (pro-porn or anti-porn?) and its application to the author’s own experience as a stripper. However, just like the quote, “the psychic toll is immense, but not for the reasons I thought it would be. It’s not my nakedness that gets to me, it’s theirs. The desperate need to feel something, anything, emanates from so many of them [the customers],” Rocket Queen, Vol. I scores high on the quirky-but-sad-meter.
